9ct vs 18ct Gold Jewellery: What You Need to Know

9ct vs 18ct Gold – What’s the Difference?

Customers often ask me, "What’s the difference between 9ct and 18ct gold?" Here’s a simple breakdown to help you decide what’s right for you.

9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold, mixed with other metals like copper and silver. It’s more affordable, very durable, and has a soft, warm golden colour. I work with recycled 9ct yellow gold in most of my designs because it’s perfect for everyday wear.

18ct gold is 75% pure gold. It’s richer in colour, a little heavier, and slightly softer than 9ct. It’s more luxurious and ideal for special pieces like wedding rings or heirlooms.

Both are beautiful in their own right. It really comes down to your preferences — do you want a brighter, more intense gold, or something subtle and practical?

I’m always happy to make any of my designs in either metal. Just ask, and we’ll find the best fit for your style, your skin, and your budget.
