From Scrap to Scintillating Ring: The Journey of Recycled Gold 🌍

A Personal Beginning

I’m Sian, working from my basic but cozy Worcester home-studio, and every piece starts with recycled gold. Whether it’s recycled sheet gold and wire or old family rings or scrap from trusted refiners, I transform discarded metal into heirloom-worthy creations. It’s more than crafting—it's giving new purpose to precious materials.

Why I Choose Recycled Gold

Gold has been used for thousands of years and to me reusing and melting precious metal to make jewellery is a fundamental part of the craft and industry.

What the process involves

  1. Melting – combining recycled sources into ingots.

  2. Forming – rolling into wire or sheet before shaping.

  3. Hammering – imprinting the unique bark-inspired texture.

  4. Finishing & hallmarking – ensuring quality and traceability.

Why It Matters

  • Ethical transparency – no hidden environmental impact.

  • A story in metal – each ring carries history from its previous life.

Real-Life Example

A recent customer brought in her grandmother’s gold wedding band. I melted it down and added additional recycled gold in order to have enough metal to work with, then I hammered the bark texture, and created a new ring that feels both modern and deeply sentimental.
