How do different finger ring size measurements differ around the world?

I make all of my handmade solid recycled gold rings using the UK finger sizing from A-Z, where the internal diameter of a size 'L' is approximately 16.3mm.

Finger ring size measurements vary globally, with different countries using distinct sizing systems. Here are the primary ring size measurement systems used around the world:

United States (and Canada)

  • Measurement Unit: Numerical sizes.
  • Range: Typically from size 3 to size 13 for adults, in half-size increments.
  • Examples: Size 6, Size 6.5.

United Kingdom (and Australia)

  • Measurement Unit: Alphabetical letters.
  • Range: Typically from size A to size Z, with half-sizes indicated as well.
  • Examples: Size M, Size M 1/2.

Europe

  • Measurement Unit: Millimeters (circumference of the ring).
  • Range: Varies, typically from size 40 to size 76.
  • Examples: Size 50, Size 54.

Japan (and China)

  • Measurement Unit: Numerical sizes, similar to the U.S., but the numbers differ.
  • Range: Typically from size 1 to size 30.
  • Examples: Size 7, Size 13.

France

  • Measurement Unit: Millimeters (circumference of the ring).
  • Range: Similar to the European system but with different starting points.
  • Examples: Size 44, Size 60.

Germany

  • Measurement Unit: Millimeters (circumference of the ring).
  • Range: Same as the European system.
  • Examples: Size 50, Size 54.

Italy

  • Measurement Unit: Millimeters (circumference of the ring).
  • Range: Follows the European system closely.
  • Examples: Size 10, Size 14.

International Conversion

  • Since these systems are different, international ring size conversion charts are often used to find the corresponding sizes across different systems. These charts help jewellers and consumers match sizes accurately when purchasing rings from different countries.

Understanding these differences is crucial when purchasing rings internationally to ensure the correct fit. I can provide conversion charts and can assist with measurements to accommodate these regional variations.
