Why is the number 7 so special?

I have been making these solid recycled gold personalised pebbles for a while now and this is the first time I’ve made one with a number on it. Now I’ve always offered this as an option but I’ve never had a photo of how it looks ‘in real life’ but that has now all changed! A regular customer ordered a handmade solid recycled 9ct gold pebble with the number ‘7’ stamped on it.

This also made me wonder why the number 7? Now this could have many very personal reasons behind it but it’s common knowledge that the number 7 is seen as lucky. This is what I learnt:

A Divine Number

In many cultures, the number 7 is considered to be divine or sacred. One of the earliest examples of this can be found in ancient Mesopotamia, where the number 7 was associated with the seven celestial bodies visible to the naked eye: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. These celestial bodies were believed to have a profound influence on the world and the lives of humans.
Mystical Symbolism

The number 7 is often associated with mystical symbolism and is considered to be a symbol of completeness or perfection. In the Judeo-Christian tradition, for example, the number 7 appears numerous times in the Bible, where it is often associated with completion or fulfillment.

• In the Book of Genesis, it is said that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh day, thus sanctifying the Sabbath.

• In the Book of Revelation, there are seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowls of wrath, all of which symbolize the completion of God's divine plan.

Cultural Significance

The significance of the number 7 extends far beyond the Judeo-Christian tradition. In many other cultures and religions, the number 7 holds a special place:

• In Hinduism, there are seven chakras, or energy centers, within the body.

• In Buddhism, the Buddha is said to have taken seven steps upon his birth, and there are seven treasures of the Buddhist faith.

• In Islam, there are seven heavens and seven gates to hell.

Numerology

In numerology, the study of the mystical significance of numbers, the number 7 is considered to be a highly spiritual number. It is often associated with intuition, introspection, and inner wisdom. People born under the number 7 are said to be introspective and inquisitive, with a strong desire to uncover the truth about the world and themselves.

Mathematical Properties

The number 7 also has some interesting mathematical properties:

• It is a prime number, meaning it can only be divided by 1 and itself.

• It is the fourth prime number, which is itself a significant number in mathematics.

• It is also a Fibonacci number, appearing in the Fibonacci sequence, which is a series of numbers where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones.

Who knew how special the number 7 really is?! I hope I make many more solid recycled gold pebbles with numbers stamped on them.
